This Designer Put a Whole Console in a Nike Sneaker

Have you ever wanted to play a classic SNES game, like F-Zero or Mario Kart, on a pair of sneakers? Well, designer Gustavo Bonzanini made some shoes that you can do that on, called the AIR SNES. These are a custom pair of Nike Air Max 90 shoes that can fully function as a console.

This creation celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Super Nintendo launch in Japan, and the idea that Bonzanini had was to merge both culture and technology, moving beyond shoes that look like video games to shoes that are actually video games.

The core technology that lets the shoe function as a game console is mostly in the tongue of the sneaker. The system is run by a tuny Rasbery PI Zero Q microcomputer using the RetroPie emulator. It holds enough power for a quick game with a 30-minute gameplay battery life.

The shoes have an integrated HDMI port for modern televisions, and for even more nostalgia, there is a small adapter for RCA connectors. The player can use the original SNES gamepad or actually connect wirelessly through Bluetooth to an 8BitDO Mod Kit.

Gustavo Bonzanini made this shoe as something like an art project. A way to push boundaries of what is possible in a shoe. The shoes are a very unique piece that celebrate the 35-year legacy of SNES. But sadly, the AIR SNES are a one-time creation that are not available for sale, but still, great job, Gustavo Bonzanini, for making a console in a shoe that actually works!

Do you wish that the AIR SNES were an actual shoe you could buy? What game would you play on it if you could get it? Do you think it would be cool to have a game console in your shoe? Let us know in the comments!
