iPhone 17: Bigger, Brighter, Better

We just got to see the new iPhone 17 at Apple’s Event. It’s positioned as a big upgrade with smarter cameras, new display tech, and the all new A19 chip. It starts at the normal $799 and has five new colors to choose from.

Design

The bezels of the new iPhone 17 are smaller, so the 6.1-inch display is now a 6.3-inches, and the display also has a 120Hz refresh rate. Its peak brightness is 3,00nits which is 2x better outdoor contrast. It also gets the new Ceramic Shield 2, which is 3x more scratch-resistance and reduces glare.

Cameras

The camera is one of the biggest differences from last years iPhone 16 model. It has a 18MP Center Stage selfie-camera, which uses AI to expand the frame in group selfies.

And now if you can take a video with Dual Capture, you to be able to record on both the front and back camera.

The rear cameras are a 48MP Fusion Main Camera with 2x telephoto, and a new 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide and Macro camera. With these cameras you can record video in 4K60 Dolby Vision.

Performance

The iPhone gets the all new A19 chip, which has a 1.5x faster CPU than the A15 and a 2x faster GPU. The Battery life on it is 30 hours of video playback. With faster charging it allows your iPhone go to 50% in just 20 minute with a 40W adapter.

Other chips include the new N1 wireless chip that lets the iPhone 17 connect to Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.

Accessories

For accessories there is the normal Clear Case and Silicone Case with MagSafe that are $49. There is also the new Crossbody Strap which is $59, and is compatible with both of the cases for the iPhone 17.

Sustainability

To help Apple meet their Carbon Neutral goal, the iPhone 17 is made overall with 30% recycled content, a 100% recycled cobalt battery, a 85% recycled aluminum, 100% recyclable packaging, and the whole thing is being made with renewable energy.

Pricing

The iPhone 17 starts at $799 with 256GB and a 512GB option is also available. It come in the colors: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white. Pre-orders start September 12 and shipping starts September 19.

The new iPhone 17 brings great performance, new cameras and a brighter display. This is not how much of an upgrade we expected year, but here it is with an amazing upgrade.
