Hello Blood Oxygen! Again!
Apple just announced that the Apple Watch Series 9,10, and Ultra 2 would finally get the Blood Oxygen feature with a new design!
Why the Apple Watch Blood Oxygen was disabled for some models, is because Masimo, a medical device maker known for its pulse oximeters, said that Apple infringed on several of their patents. Which made Masimo file a case with the ITC in 2021, which then resulted into an import ban in December 2023.
What Apple did to go around this ban, is they now give all the data of the Blood Oxygen test from your watch, to the iPhone it is paired with. Apple’s announcement says that US customs has allowed them to ship watches with this feature.
This redesign will only support watches made after January, 27 2025, that’s when the watch ban came into effect. It won't do anything to models made before that, because they still have the original Blood Oxygen feature.
If you do want to get it, for the Series 9, 10, or Ultra 2, you should download iOS 18.6 and Watch OS 11.6.
