Google’s new Nest Cams and Doorbell lineup are built around Google’s AI, Gemini. These new smart home devices are designed for peace of mind with AI-powered intelligence. Google’s goal with them is to provide smart alerts, better context, and easier ways to understand what’s happening in a home.
There are three new devices: the Nest Cam Indoor 3rd gen, the Nest Cam Outdoor 2nd gen, and the 3rd gen of Nest Doorbell. All of the new cameras and Dorbell get 2K HDR video, which is the highest resolution yet, and is rated as DXOMARK’s #1. They also get a large viewing angle up to 152 degrees for the Nest cams, and an even bigger 166 degrees with a diagonal 1:1 aspect ratio for the Nest Dorbell. These upgrades give more detail and more context in every frame of the camera feed.
The new cameras and doorbell also get better low-light performance with a new sensor and a wider aperture. The amazing thing with the new cameras is that they can stay in full-color mode longer at dawn and dusk. There is also still infrared night vision that makes for a good camera feed in complete darkness.
In AI features, the new smart home devices are powered by Gemini. It makes the cameras and Doorbell able to give more detailed notifications, allows a new feature called Ask Home for video search, and also it can now give Home summaries in a condensed form from hours of footage. The AI's new features are meant to make for less scrolling, faster answers, and clearer context.
Other helpful features include built-in alerts for people, vehicles, animals, and packages with no subscription, digital zoom and crop features with zoomed-in animated previews in alerts, and the new event video history that went from 3 to 6 hours with 10-second clips. Google is positioning these products as valuable right out of the box without extra costs.
The new products are also private with encrypted video, two-step verification, and a visible recording light. They are also sustainable with recycled materials, UV-resistant resin, and plastic-free packaging.
You can buy all these new smart home products today with the Nest Cam Indoor costing $99.99, the Outdoor version $149.99, and the new Nest Doorbell costing $179.99.
