Apple Made a Chatbot, But It’s Only Available to Their Engineers

Apple has had a weird promise with its own AI, Apple Intelligence. They said it was going to come out last year, but not all the features have been released, including the most useful one, Siri with in-app actions. However, Bloomberg found that Apple actually has a secret internal chatbot app, code-named Veritas. This app was designed to test and refine a major Siri overhaul that is slated for release next year. But you should know that Veritas is not meant for a public release.

We do know what the app does. It can search through personal data like songs and email, or even perform in-app actions like editing photos. The experience is very similar to ChatGPT and other chatbots, with saved conversations, follow-ups, and extended exchanges. It’s basically a test ground for Siri’s new underlying system code-named Linwood.

The reason Siri's revamp is so important is that it could restore Apple’s declining AI reputation. It is a high-stakes area with strong competition from other companies like Google and Samsung. This overhaul is a part of Apple’s broader AI strategy under Tim Cook’s push to “win in AI.”

Apple has also been in talks with other AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and, most recently, Google for AI model partnerships. Competition over AI features is becoming central to smartphone decisions, and maybe Apple, in the future, will not only have its own AI models running on their devices, but maybe they will have multiple models from different companies, so users can choose which one they like the best.

Apple’s big plan for Apple Intelligence is a redesigned Siri interface and new AI features across all its devices, like the HomePod, Apple TV, and other smart devices. Veritas will probably not be a public app because Apple has a cautious stance toward consumer chatbot apps like it. The new Siri upgrade coming soon could be the turning point for Apple in the AI race. Let’s see what happens!

What do you think about Apple’s AI strategy? Do you use Apple Intelligence a lot, or not a lot? Let us know in the comments!
