Apple Unveils iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: The Most Advanced iPhones Yet

Apple just unveiled their most powerful iPhones yet, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. You can pre-order them today, and they will start shipping on the 19th of September. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 and the Pro Max at $1,100.

Why It Matters

This is one of the biggest upgrades for any iPhone. It gets a new design and performs faster with the all the A19 Pro chip. It is aimed at gamers, filmmakers, and pro content makers. Apple is showing that they’re not just catching up, they are setting the standard.

Design & Durability

Unlike last years Pro iPhone’s which were made with titanium, the new 17s have an Aerospace grade aluminum unibody backing. For even better protection there is the new Ceramic Shield 2 on both sides of the phone, which is 3x better scratch resistant and 4x stronger against cracks.

The inside of this iPhone was redesigned, and now for the first time for an iPhone it is cooled by a Vapor Chamber. So it should make heat dissipate better when your using it for high power tasks.

It will be available in 3 colors, Deep blue, an amazing looking Cosmic Orange, and Silver.

Display

The iPhone 17 Pro gets a 6.3-inch display, and the Pro Max gets a 6.9 inch screen. For the fist time ever, in the Ceramic Shield 2, there is an anti-reflective coating, to help you see the screen better while outside.

Performance

With the A19 chip the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU with ray tracing, a 16-core Neural Engine, and a 40% better sustained performance vs the A18 Pro. The chip was designed to run AAA gaming, video editing, and AI models smoothly.

Cameras

For the first in a Pro iPhone lineup all of the three cameras are 48MP. The new telephoto can 4x zoom at 100mm and 8x zoom at 200mm, that is the longest of an iPhone! And for the fist time you can digitally zoom up to 40x.

There is also a 18MP Center Stage Selfie Camera, which will frame the picture for the best results. There’s also a new feature, called Dual Capture, which allows you to record with your front and back camera at the same time. All of these cameras features give the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max an amazing camera system.

Video

For an industry first, Apple announced that these iPhone Pro models will be able to record in ProRes RAW and Apple Log 2. You will also be able to record in Dolby Vision HDR and at 4k at 120 fps. All these features are targeted at pro filmmakers and creators.

Battery

These Pro phones have the best battery life of any iPhone, with up to 39 hours of video playback on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. They also have the biggest battery of any iPhone, due to the removal of the SIM tray, and switching to eSIM only models.

This battery will be able to charge to 50% in just 20 minutes with a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter.

Accessories

There are 3 accessories for the iPhone 17 Pro models the new TechWoven case that is $59, the normal Clear Case for $49, and the $49 Silicone Case. All of these cases will be able to connect to the new Crossbody Strap that is $59.

Sustainability

To help Apple meet their 2030 goal of being carbon neutral by 2030, these Pro phones have been made with 30% recycled materials, a 100% recycled cobalt battery, and 100% recycled gold plating. When they are manufacture they are made with 40% renewable energy, and are packaged with 100% fiber-based packaging, which is fully recyclable.
