Waymo and Zoox are both expanding their driverless cars to more cities
Autonomous rides that work like Ubers have been around for a while, and now some of the best-known companies like, Waymo and Zoox, are expanding their operating areas. That signals these vehicles are not only becoming more popular but also getting acceptance from regulators and city governments.
Zoox in Las Vegas
Zoox just officially launched on the Las Vegas Strip, offering free rides through its app. Riders go to places like Resorts World, Topgolf, and more soon. Zoox has also partnered with hotels to offer concierge style services, making it easier for visitors to experience the robotaxi experience.

Waymo’s New Cities
Waymo is entering Denver this fall, laying the groundwork for future public service. Next up will be Seattle, and Waymo has also just received authorization to drive at San José International Airport, which is its first major airport hub.
Waymo is also either testing or preparing launches in New York City, Washington, DC, Miami, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Tokyo. Today, it already operates in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, with more than 250,000 weekly rides.

Different Strategies
Zoox is taking a cautious, city by city strategy, with its in-house designed robotaxis and free rides until regulators give full approval.
On the other side Waymo is expanding aggressively across multiple cities and airport hubs while working with partners like Avis, Toyota, Hyundai, and Zeekr.
Why Expansion Matters
More cities mean more rider trust, more data, and faster improvements in safety. Airports, entertainment districts, and big urban areas are becoming actual test areas for these robotaxis. This growth also shows that regulators are getting more comfortable with robotaxis on roads.
The Road Ahead
Already by just 2026, robotaxies could be in dozens of U.S. cities. The big question now is whether consumers will like using or hesitate using these robotaxis.
