Tesla Added Two Driving Modes to Their FSD v14, Sloth and Mad Max

Tesla is rolling out an update in the U.S. to its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) feature. It is called v14 and represents one of Tesla’s biggest software updates in about a year, with a focus on smoother driving, better visualization, and improved parking automation.

Some improved features include self-parking that remembers location, refined traffic behavior, faster lane selection, cleaner in-app navigation design, and better handling with unusual road conditions like cones, cyclists, or construction. All of this makes it feel smother and more confident, according to testers.

There is also a new driving profile in FSD v14, called Sloth Mode. It is extra cautious, accelerates more slowly, has longer braking distances, and drives with more space between cars. Useful in the city or dense traffic situations. Some users like its calmness, while others say it’s way too gentle and slows traffic.

Tesla also reintroduced the Mad Max mode in the v14.1.2 sub-update. It increases speed and lane changes very aggressively. It originally debuted in 2018, and now it’s back by popular demand-though still controversial, with its whole thing about it not following the speed limit. Early testers noted rolling stops and sharper maneuvers.

With Sloth and Mad Max both in this new software update, it shows two sides of Tesla’s FSD personality: cautious and aggressive. Tesla is basically letting users tune their cars to their driving style.

Many other automakers right now are choosing more cautious, lidar-based systems, while Tesla leans more into aggressive and camera-based systems.

FSD v14 does, however, still show real technical progress with the AI learning and behaving more naturally. This update shows how bold and risk-taking Tesla is, at least with Mad Max mode.

Which mode would you choose, Sloth or Mad Max? Next time you see a Tesla driving very aggressively, will you think about the person driving it or the software driving the car? Let us know in the comments!
