Google’s new AI Shopping Tool can Call and Buy Things on Your Behalf
Google is officially expanding its AI-driven shopping tool across Search and the Gemini app, launching smartly ahead of the holiday season. The new conversational AI shopping system lets users describe what they want, refine it with natural text inputs, and get specific and dynamic responses. The recommendations are pulled for over 50 billion product listings and can switch formats depending on what a user searches for, like companies, price, image, history, and more. These features are built on what was previewed at Google I/O and are meant to help with discovery, comparison, and checkout.
Surprisingly, some of these new Google agents can call stores and even make purchases for you. The Let Google Call tool is an agentic AI that can call local stores, ask about the stock and promotions, and then report back to customers via text or email. The AI identifies itself as an AI, so stores can opt out if they choose. The rollout will include categories such as toys, health and beauty, and electronics. A user can also select a product spec and set a target price. If the price drops to what they wanted, then the user can confirm the purchase, and then the AI will use Google Pay to complete the payment.

Google is framing these new tools as helping to reduce tasks while keeping users still in full control, especially when it comes to price tracking! This could definitely change how people find products, from browsing stores to relying on influencers and product-review sites. The question is whether consumers will actually trust what the AI does, or whether they will continue lying on tests and research.
Would you trust an AI to call stores and maybe even buy items for you? Do you think this feature could actually become popular? Let us know in the comments!
