Doma: A Smart Home Brand Aiming to Reduce Friction in the Home
Imagine walking up to your home and, instead of looking for a key or phone, the smart lock recognizes your face. That's what the Doma door does. It's not just a lock; it is also a motorized mechanism that closes and locks itself behind you. It is great for people who want an organized life with much less friction.

What makes Doma different from other smart home brands is that Doma actually puts its tech into doors and windows at the factory, not like the normal brands that make products that you add on to your home. The door has a simple interior panel that stays out of your way when not in use, but when in use, it reveals a live video peephole when someone is at the door, or if you just want to look outside. It is also hard-wired into the home’s power, so consumers will no longer need to charge it.

Doma also makes smart windows that use the same motorized tech, but they aren’t only for security; they are also for wellness. The system monitors the air quality, pollution, and weather. Then it can automatically open and close to maintain the present temperature or fresh air level. They also just look like normal windows!

Yves Béhar and Jason Johnson, founders of August, left August to start Doma. They talk about that “Technology shouldn’t be a playground for API wrestling or Arduino kits. It should be an experience layer that disappears into daily life.” That’s why Doma’s main focus is to make the smart home experience frictionless.
Do you think that the integrated solution could be the solution to the headaches of having a smart home? Do you think it would be cool to have a door that opens automatically? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
