All About Also’s E-Bike That is Pretty Cool
Rivian has made a spinoff brand for micro mobility called Also. They recently unveiled some new products, the TM-B e-bike and the Alpha Wave smart helmet. The goal of this new brand is to combine sustainability, design, and technology to make commuting more intuitive and safer. Also aims to rethink the way that people think about moving, not just by electrifying, but also by redefining how hardware, software, and safety all work together.
The TM-B has a unique modular frame with a visual blend of Rivan’s rugged DNA and minimalist design. The frame can convert from a commuter setup to a cargo hauler or child carrier without the need for tools, which you don’t see often. There are 24-inch wheels on the bike with a width of 2.6 inches that offer both sustainability and versatility. The design is like other bikes, like the Cale or VanMoff, but with a bolder and more functional style. The range of customization options for height ranges all the way from 4’11” to 6’8”.
In the TM-B. There is a pedal-by-wire DreamTide drivetrain, with no mechanical chain, so when you pedal, it powers a generator that sends energy to the motor. Rear wheel power is provided by the Gated Carbon Belt Drive for quieter and low-maintenance riding. It delivers up to 180 Nm of torque, meaning strong hill-climbing and quick launches. Dual control through pedal assist or throttle makes for up to 28 mph of cruising speed, which is a Class 3 limit. With generative braking on, you can extend the range by 25%. One symbol of how Rivian is a hands-on company is how everything from firmware to motors is developed in-house.
For battery options, there are two that are both removable. A 583 Wh or 808 Wh, offering up to a huge 100 miles of range, depending on the mode. The batteries charge via USB-C at up to 249 W with a full charge in 2-3.4 hours. The dual USB-C ports also let the battery double as a portable power bank for phones, laptops, cameras, or other devices. All of this makes the battery flexible in different situations with a single battery that powers your bike and lifestyle. Also’s decision to keep the power architecture open hints at a bigger mobility platform that could be in the works!
There is a 5-inch circular touchscreen console in the front of the bike that serves as the bike’s control center, unlocking the seat, tracking riding stats, and syncing navigation. The system adapts software features via over-the-air updates, like Rivian vehicles. Proving ETA, navigation, and energy management, factoring in terrain and assist levels. The experience is meant to feel more like piloting a smart vehicle than a traditional bike. Intuitive, connected, and user-aware.
The TM-B also has safety and security systems. It has built-in proximity-based security that locks the frame, battery, and wheels when the rider walks away from the bike. The bike is also equipped with LTR and GPS for real-time tracking and tamper alerts through the Also app. The system can be remotely disabled or bricked if stolen, which is unique in the e-bike world. The hydraulic disc brakes ensure stopping power, and built-in LED lighting and turn signals boost visibility. Biomotion lighting even illuminates the rider’s legs to enhance nighttime safety, which is a clever human-centric touch.
There is also an Alpha Wave helmet that integrates with the bike for media and communication. It is built with a Release Layer System to reduce rotational impact and is similar to MIPS but proprietary to Also. It features integrated LED lighting, four speakers, and two noise-canceling microphones in one helmet. The helmet Syncs to the TM-B console or rider’s phone for music, podcasts, and calls without earbuds. There is a redesigned one-hand strap system that replaces traditional clips for lightweight, all-day comfort. The helmet represents the merging of techwear and transport safety gear. Another signal that Also thinking long-term.
Also isn’t just making a bike and helmet; they are creating a connected ecosystem for clean and smart transportation. These products show Rivian’s wider vision of bringing electric, software-driven design to all types of mobility. TM-B and Alpha Wave feel like early glimpses of a world where small commutes are safer, more efficient, and human-focused.
